The Aurora Oriental Resort in Sham El Sheikh can be found in the Nabq region, and set on its own private beach.  With plenty of facilities the resort is popular with couples and families.   Facing the Red Sea and the picturesque Titan Island this would be an ideal location for holiday makers to enjoy a well earned break, however this is not always possible.  Many cases of unacceptable and avoidable holiday illness have been reported by visitors to the Aurora Oriental Resort.

Sickholiday.com have dealt with 120 cases of reported food poisoning at the Aurora Oriental Resort.

Symptoms including stomach cramps, diarrhoea and vomiting have been reported.   Cases of Shigella have been confirmed, with illness severe enough to require visitors to seek medical attention.  These illnesses are forms of food poisoning and are caused by coming into contact with food that has been handled unhygienically, leading to many all-inclusive holidays being ruined and many holidaymakers left out of pocket.

Whilst staying in the Aurora Oriental Resort it is important to follow these guidelines to reduce the risk of food poisoning and other holiday illnesses:

  • Avoid foods not cooked thoroughly and/or re-heated incorrectly.
  • Avoid foods not prepared hygienically.
  • Avoid food not stored at the correct temperature.
  • Frequently use an alcohol-based hand gel.
  • Avoid salads and any uncooked fruits and vegetables (these may have been handled unhygienically)
  • Avoid swimming in water or pools that appear dirty and untreated.

In the event that you do get ill Sickholiday advise that you seek medical attention whilst on holiday as this will greatly increase your chances of making an eligible claim upon your return.

It is your tour operators’ responsibility to make sure you are provided with a safe, clean and hygienic hotel.

“She had to take unpaid time off work…”

Miss M travelled to the Oriental Resort for their Christmas and New Year celebration 2013. After eating different meats in the buffet area she started experiencing severe sickness and diarrhoea, only 4 days into her holiday. She was unable to attend the excursions she booked, with no refund.

Miss M went to a pharmacy and bought re-hydration sachets which helped keep her hydrated, although it didn’t help the symptoms. Her symptoms lasted for 10 days so when she returned home she had to take 2 unpaid days off work.

Miss K stayed at the Oriental Resort Sharm in September 2013. Miss M experienced an unsettled stomach only 2 days into the holiday. This was then followed by extreme gastric symptoms. She suffered sickness and diarrhoea with blood, along with blurred vision and stomach cramps.  When Miss K returned home she visited her General Practice straight away.

The doctor took various samples for testing. The results came back positive for Shigella (a form of salmonella). Due to the illness Miss K had a colonoscopy which showed her bowel damaged. This has made her lactose intolerant and sensitive to certain foods. She has now been diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome 1 year after her visit to Oriental Resort Sharm.
